How the total was worked out

A Greek hotel bill adds 13% VAT to the room rate, then the climate crisis resilience fee. The fee is per room per night, not per guest, and depends on the star rating and season.

How it is worked out

  1. VAT is 13% of the room rate.
  2. The climate resilience fee is added per room per night, with no VAT on it.

A worked example

Room rate EUR 100.00
VAT 13% on 100.00 EUR 13.00
Climate resilience fee, 1 room x 1 night at 5.00 EUR 5.00
Total EUR 118.00

What to watch for

  • From April to October the fee is EUR 2 at 1 and 2-star hotels, EUR 5 at 3-star, EUR 10 at 4-star and EUR 15 at 5-star.
  • From November to March it drops to as low as EUR 0.50, and up to EUR 4.
  • The example uses a 3-star hotel in summer. Enter the fee for your own rating and season.

Doing this in Zitlin

Add a Climate Resilience Fee add-on charged per room per night on a 0% tax. Zitlin holds one rate per add-on, so change its price when the season changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Greece's climate resilience fee per person or per room?
Per room per night. A couple and a family of four in one room pay the same fee.

Is VAT charged on the climate resilience fee?
No. It sits on the bill as its own line with no VAT on it.

Does Zitlin add the fee to invoices?
Yes. Set it up as an add-on charged per room per night, and each room gets its own line. Update the price when the season changes.
