A ++ price in Thailand has a 10% service charge and 7% VAT still to come. VAT is charged on the price plus the service charge, so ++ means 17.7%, not 17%.
How it is worked out
- Service charge is 10% of the price.
- VAT is 7% of the price plus the service charge.
A worked example
| Room rate | THB 2,000.00 |
|---|---|
| Service charge 10% on 2,000.00 | THB 200.00 |
| VAT 7% on 2,200.00 | THB 154.00 |
| Total | THB 2,354.00 |
What to watch for
- The VAT rate is held at 7% by royal decree until 30 September 2027. The Revenue Code rate is 10%, so check the rate if you read this after that date.
- Not every property adds a service charge. Without one, the bill is the price plus 7%.
Doing this in Zitlin
Add a tax under Settings with Service Charge first and VAT second, and tick the box that charges VAT on the price plus the components above. Properties that price without a service charge use a plain 7% VAT instead.
Frequently asked questions
What does ++ mean on a price in Thailand?
It means a 10% service charge and 7% VAT are not included yet. VAT is charged on top of the service charge, so a ++ price of 1,000 baht comes to 1,177 baht.
Is VAT in Thailand 7% or 10%?
7%. The Revenue Code rate is 10%, but a royal decree holds it at 7% until 30 September 2027.
Does Zitlin work this out on the invoice?
Yes. Set VAT to charge on top of the service charge and every invoice follows, including tax-inclusive prices. Invoicing is on the free plan.
